Dot nervously twisted her cloth napkin.

She and Tip were at the coffee shop, waiting for Herbert to get off the phone.

"Tip, I'm so worried," she exclaimed. Tip dumped a pack of sugar into his coffee and slowly stirred it with a spoon.

"Well we can't do anything about it until Herb gets of the phone. Why don't you have a cup of coffee? Here," he said, scooting his cup towards her. She shook her head, and glanced nervously towards the phone booth.

Suddenly Herbert appeared. He dodged a waiter and came rushing over.

"Chief McDailen says he'll get some men and station them on the block of Jensen's bakery. He said if they see any suspicious characters, they'll let us know." Dot jumped up from her chair.

"What? Is that all he's doing? Looking out for suspicious characters? What kind of a police force do we have? We've got to go straight to that alley and capture those men!" Dot's face was a deep scarlet.

"Hush, we're being stared at," Tip whispered.

"You aren't doing anything, missie. This job is for the police, not for a lady. I don't want to see you anywhere near that alley, you hear me? Now, I got to run, I'm late for my meeting as it is." Herbert kissed his steaming wife on the cheek and headed out the door. Dot stamped her foot on the black and white tiled floor. In a whirl she was out of the coffee shop, leaving Tip in astonishment.

She hailed a taxi. When she climbed into the backseat, she said, "Jensen's Bakery, please." The driver pulled away from the coffee shop.

 Her gloved hand fingered the small, black, pistol that she had taken out of her purse. She was ready.
