part 6

The driver, an older guy with a wife in the backseat started up and they drove. when they were on the main highway he looked back.
" I don't mean to be inquisitive but what happened?" he asked.
Dot and Tip looked at each other. Herbert smiled.
" We were on the train, it got robbed and the conductor thought it was us," He said.
The husband looked over at his wife for a moment then looked back breifly.
" Was his name Mr. Clenchy?" he asked.
" Yes," Dot said.
He smiled and nodded his head.
" Yeah, he would falsely accuse you, its happened before in the news," He said.
Then they drove on a ways and he let them off in coonsville at a gas station. as they stepped out taking their luggage the sun was just peaking out over the horizon making the city glow.
" Thankyou sir we will never forget your kindess," She said.
He just waved it off.
" Nah, its okay, my pleasure," He said.
As he drove away.  They ducked into the washroom and got changed. When Dot walked out, she was wearing   a polka dot sun dress. Tip and Herbert were changed too, sitting at a table eating sausages. it smelled really good.

Part 5

 Part 3, By Kathryn

Dot looked on in horror as the train chugged into the distance, it's bright lights sending gleams into the dark night.
"Oh, Herbert! What are we going to do?" she asked, full of emotion.
"Walk, I guess."
"All the way to New York, with our luggage?" Tip asked, setting his brown suitcase on the dirt.
"We have to if we want to make it back to New York for our wedding!"
"Maybe if we're lucky, someone will spot us and give us a lift," Dot suggested.

The stars shone down as the threesome walked along the tracks. Dot shivered as the wind blew. They were still in their pajamas, and freezing.
"This is embarrassing," Dot said, pulling her robe tighter. "We'll never get a lift looking like this!" Suddenly bright headlights shined beside them, on the road. A black sedan pulled up, and rolled down a window.
"Looks like you could need a ride," a man said. "Where yah headed?"
"New York," Tip replied. 'Think you could drive us there?"
"Not headed that far, but I'll drop you off at Coonesville, which is about 20 miles from there," the man said.
So the group hopped in, luggage and all.

part 4

She ran to the Conductor's compartment, seeing the door wide open, she shined her flashlight around and saw the conductor tied up, out cold. Herbert and Tip was beside her in a moment.
" Dot, take it easy, sit down you were just knocked down," He said.
She resisted, protesting she was alright.
" Look, theirs the conductor and engineer," She said.
Tip and Herbert cut the ropes and lay him down, rubbing his arms to get the circulation back as Dot took a seat. The conductor stirred and suddenly got up.
" Take it easy Sir!" Tip said. as they tried to steady Him.
He felt his head.
" Who did it? did you?" He asked.
Dot gasped.
" No sir, we only came because we heard you were knocked out.." Tip was cut off.
" You all theifs! you stole the money! you get out off this train right now!" He bawled.
Dot and Herbert and Tip exchanged glances.
" Sir I-" Herbert tried to interfere.
The conductor pointed to the door.
" Out!" He said.
The stewards hurried up.
" Mr. Clenchy, please take a seat, you don't look so good," One of them said.
The steward took a chair and offered it to him. Mr. Clenchy sat down.
" Get them off this train, those theivs and get the police on their tail, they robbed this train," He hissed.
The engineer complied.
Dot was helpless, Herbert stepped up to say something but they could say nothing to make the Conductor, Mr. Clenchy believe them, soon they were pushed out with their luggage out of the train, in the middle of nowhere. The train hissed and pulled away
They were supposed to get to New York city and here they were near train tracks.

Part 3

She fell face flat on the stiff hall carpet. Someone had just knocked her over! She staggered to her knees, and looked down the dark hall. There was no one.
She raced back into her compartment, and felt around for her flashlight. She beamed it's light down the hall, and slowly walked forward.
Suddenly, she heard the pounding of footsteps behind her. She whizzed around to see two train stewards.
"Miss?" they called, catching up with Dot. "Have you seen a man with a light brown coat?"
"No, but I just got flattened by someone!" Dot answered. "What's happened?"
"The engineer got tied up, and the conductor got knocked out! We found them in the engine car when the train stopped." The two men raced on down the hall. Why would someone tie up the engineer and knock out the conductor? she wondered. Of course! To rob the train! One man would stop the train so they could get away, and the other man or men would rob all the cars!
Herbert and Tip swung open their compartment door, and stepped out into the hall.
"Dot! What's going on?" Herbert asked.
"The train's being robbed! Come one!" The boys' eyes grew big. She dashed off down the hall, and they followed. By now, a few people had stepped out of their rooms to see why the train had stopped. Dot whizzed by them. Were the robbers still on the train?

The train chugged into the night. Tip said goodnight and and they retired into their separete compartments. Tomarrow, they'd be in New York city, Dot would be married to Herbert. She smiled as she looked out the window at the many stars, the train tracks lolled her to sleep.

She suddenly woke up, not knowing what woke her up, her heart beat widely.
What had woken her up?
She threw her blanket off her and slipped on her bathrobe, finding her way to the door, she peeked out.

Then she realized, the train had stopped!
She stepped out into the hall to see what was the problem. And somone was running by, knocking her over. She screamed. and fell to the floor.

A taste of loneliness

time: 1940's

part 1

" All aboard for New York city," the train conductor called. Dot looked up. Where was Tip and Herbert?. The train was about to leave without them! She looked at her gold watch on her wrist, her suitcase next to her with her purse.
" Com'n Tip, Herbert," She thought.
She promised to wait for them, they had origanally planned to meet on the bench, they said they'd be short time, to get lunch. They had to be in New York city in two days for her wedding.  Then as she lost hope, they were running up, and got on the train together. Tip smiled wrly.
" Sorry, the lines were a bit longer then I expected," he said.
Dot pretended not to have noticed.
" Thats okay, at least you've got lunch, better then what the train serves," She said.
As they sat down in the lunch area, their baggadge in the compartment tucked away. Herbert pulled out a glass bottle of orange soda.
" For you Dot," He smiled.
They ate the sandwiches and pop, the train chugged along, the scenery whizzing by.
" Why did we schedule our wedding in New York city?" Dot asked.
" My family lives there," Herbert said.
She smiled, it was an ongoing question that they liked to kid each other. Tip, Dot's brother looked out the window. They were the only ones on the train, other then another couple, it was sunny, a few clouds in the sky.  Tip glanced at the other couple, a business man reading a newspaper and the lady was finishing up her ice cream and pie, she was dressed up in a silk dress. The business man cought Tip's eye and they briefly smiled and he returned to his newspaper.
