Vanished, Part 3

Vanished Part 3, by Kathryn

"What? Come where? Where are you? What happened?" Tip asked.
"I'm at Vicky's. Can you come, quick?" Dot gripped the cream colored receiver.
"Sure, I'll be right there." Dot hung up. She turned and looked at Vicky.
Vicky sat on the sofa, a frown on her wrinkled face. She fidgeted with a white handkerchief.
"Look, Tip is going to be here, and he'll know what to do," Dot said picking up her purse.
"Dot, where are you going?" Vicky sprung up from the couch.  Dot placed her soft hands on Vicky's shoulders.
"I'll keep touch. I have to run home and see if I can find Herbert. Tip will be here soon, and he'll know what to do. After all, he's not training to be a police officer for nothing."
The words seemed to comfort Vicky, and she smiled.
"Thank you, Dot. Thank you."

Dot paid the cab driver and walked stiffly into the apartment building. This whole thing with with Vicky and the letter, and then Herbert leaving on urgent business had her in a nervous wreck. She had to find him.
She unlocked the apartment door. The living room was dark and empty, just as she had left it.  She threw her purse onto the couch and opened the bedroom door.
All of the sudden, she saw a figure of a man standing on the other side of the room.
She screamed.
Herbert wheeled around.
"Dot?!"
"Oh, Herbert!" she exclaimed. "I didn't know it was you! What are you doing home? What was the urgent business? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," he laughed. "I spilled coffee all over my white dress shirt and we have a meeting with the bosses today. I'd say that's urgent business, wouldn't you?" He retied his red tie and slipped on his suit jacket.
"Why are you so pale?" He asked, looking into her blue eyes.
"Oh, Herbert! The most horrid thing has happened!" She cried. "Vicky is in terrible danger and you have to do something!"
